Contact the club director before noon on the Friday after the game. The director will check for errors entering scores and inspect travelers for unusual scores that may be mistakes. To correct a score in favor of the player reporting a mistake, the director will often request confirmation from the pair whose score will become less favorable as a result of the correction. Yet, when making score adjustments, the director may rule in favor of a pair who keep personal scores when the opponents do not keep personal scores. Go Slamming

We lost the contract information this week, but it looks as though one
pair declared this hand well to win twelve tricks in a diamond partial.
The other pairs appear to have stopped in either 3NT (oddly making with
no overtricks) or a minor suit game (without the overtrick available in
  diamonds).

  Possible Auction:

      North    East    South    West
     Pass 1 Pass 3 *
     Pass 3NT † Pass 4 §
     Pass 4 # Pass 4
     Pass 5 ** Pass 6 ††
     All Pass
* 16 HCP or stronger showing a game force with either a club suit or an important club feature and inviting slam. West has a denomination in mind (diamonds, notrump, or clubs, the suit of the jump shift) for the final contract. West has summed 18 and 13 and knows that the part- nership has about 31 points (or more) in the combined hands. West is already looking for a slam. † The discouraging rebids after responder‘s strong jump-shift are the minimum rebids in notrump or the opened suit. East chooses 3NT as it describes the opening hand better. With an unbalanced hand and five or more diamonds, East would have rebid 3, a minimum rebid that West would have found quite encouraging. Any other rebid would show more than 15 points and switch the focus from “game” to “slam” or “grand slam” and “which slam.” § Game forcing diamond raise with a hand where 5 is probably a better contract than 3NT. Now, East has the message that slam is in the air. # East admits to a slam suitable hand (three suits headed by controls with maximum high card strength for the previous bidding) with a heart control (The A stiffened by the Q). With a hand unsuitable for slam (a minimum or fewer aces and more quacks), East would rebid 5 here. ‡ Spade control (the singleton) ** No more controls to show although, in some partnerships, East could bid 4NT to show a trump control. During a control bidding sequence, partnerships may treat notrump bids as waiting bids neither showing nor denying another control, a treatment that makes beautiful sense in the current auction. It would allow West to control bid 5C. †† West decides to go for the slam. Stopping in 5 probably yields a score (400, 420, or 440) worse than stopping in 3NT (probably, 430 or 460). Going down one in the slam will probably yield a matchpoint score only slightly worse than stopping in 5. 6 will either earn a share of the top score or (at -50) be a little bit worse than 5. There‘s more to going +920 for 6 bid and made than bidding it. East must bring home twelve tricks. East begins with one loser (the A) and eleven winners (one spade, three hearts, five diamonds, and two clubs). Finding the twelfth trick will require ruffing a club in the closed hand. Unless the defenders lead a spade and cash their ace, win trick one (Win trick two if they take their ace off the top.) Then pull two rounds of trumps. Either leave the bare A on the table to overruff the 10 or use the ace to pull a round of trumps in case diamonds break 4-1. Cash the AK and ruff a club in the closed hand. Return to the table with the carefully retained K and pull the remaining trump(s). When the Q10 both dropped, the small clubs are good. Cash them discarding spades. If the opening lead was not a heart, reenter the closed hand with the 3 and discard the Q on one of the top hearts. Otherwise, the defenders win their A. A heart lead adds complications. Figure them out. If clubs break 5-1 or 6-0, this slam goes down. What if they break 4-2? Then there will be no long clubs to cash. - Return to Results, Recap, or Menu. - Return to a Pair Summary by picking an "Untitled" page.
