Contact the club director before noon on the Friday after the game. The director will check for errors entering scores and inspect travelers for unusual scores that may be mistakes. To correct a score in favor of the player reporting a mistake, the director will often request confirmation from the pair whose score will become less favorable as a result of the correction. Yet, when making score adjustments, the director may rule in favor of a pair who keep personal scores when the opponents do not keep personal scores. Find Your Fit

Bidding has as its objective determining the denomination in which to
play a contract and the level (partscore, game, or slam) at which to
play. First, find a good fit. Second, determine the most profitable
level—the one with the most trick points, game bonus points, and slam
bonus points. Further, one’s auction must often achieve this objective
in the face of adverse bidding. After all, the opponents have their
corresponding objective. Worse, in addition to seeking their own best
contract, they are striving to disrupt your bidding in hopes that you
and your partner will reach an inferior contract. On a good day, those
same opponents will also find your bidding an impediment.

       Possible Auction:

      North    East    South    West
     Pass* 1
     Pass 1§ Pass# 2
     Pass 3** Pass†† Pass
     Pass§§
* This hand’s 5-5 major suit shape and favorable vulnerability bring it very close to opening strength. With three of the five honors being J A10, the hand could be better. Compare the hand above with . . . AJ1052 KQ974 6 87. Suppose that your partner opened 1 and rebid 2. Which of these two hands (with identical honor and spot values) matches your expectations from the bidding better? Why not open 1? What will you rebid over responder’s 1NT bid? 2? At least both cards in the ruffing value are honors! An “honest” 2 call will promise more than fifteen points. This hand does not have them. After a 1 opening, this hand might raise partner’s spade bid. Yet there will never be an opportunity for South to introduce the five- card spade suit. Further, in sequences where partner bids notrump or a minor suit, the hand needs a sixth heart to rebid hearts. Most South players will pass. Ill advised as at seems, some few will venture a first seat 1 opening planning a 2 rebid. On this deal, the adventuresome 1 openers will get lucky. † If South aggressively opens in either major suit, West no longer has the option to open 1. 2NT, an unusual notrump overcall, may solve the problem by letting West show 5-5 minor suit shape in a single bid. Different partnerships deploy the unusual notrump overcall with hands differing in strength. With a new partner, unusual notrump strength range(s) should be among the matters for discussion. § If South opened, West will have taken some action and North will have either raised spades or shown spades and implied heart shortness. If North-South have been quiet, East will bid hearts as shown. Otherwise, East will either raise clubs or show a preference for clubs over diamonds. # If North–South are not already in the auction, South is not likely to jump in against two bidding opponents, especially with the knowledge that RHO holds four or more hearts. If North has shown spade support (perhaps, with a negative double), South probably bids spades, now. ‡ On sequences with North-South in the auction, West will be affirming East’s earlier club bid or introducing clubs—perhaps, at the three or four level. ** In another auction, East may be raising to 4 or showing a preference for clubs over diamonds by passing West’s bid. In either case, East– West should contest the auction past 3 if necessary. †† If North–South have been in the auction, South will be deciding how high to compete. Thanks to the vulnerability, this is one of the rare auctions when duplicate scoring encourages a sacrifice against an adverse partscore. How high will South go? §§ When North–South have been in the auction, North may also consider biding over 3 or 4. Might East–West take a push to 5 and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? Generally, bidding should aim towards . . . > A contract in a suit where the declaring side holds eight or more cards in the trump suit. To this end, one should not normally raise partner’s suit unless the number shown by partner’s bids plus the number in one’s own hand total eight or more. > Enough winners (in high cards, long suit winners, and ruffs) to make a contract or go down by fewer points than the opponents would earn if they played their contract > Where possible, a game or slam contract to earn the game or slam bonus when it is available > Disrupting the adverse bidding so that the opponents either - Let you play some contract when they should play their contract - Play some inferior contract where they earn a poor score > Bid the suit(s) that may offer good leads when the opponents declare - Return to Results, Recap, or Menu. - Return to a Pair Summary by picking an "Untitled" page.
